Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Sr Director, Applied Research to lead a team of scientists and engineers focused on building AI-powered banking solutions. You will drive strategic direction across Applied Science, Engineering and Product, mentoring researchers and representing Capital One in the research community.

You will collaborate with product managers and data scientists, using PyTorch, Huggingface, and cloud platforms to develop scalable AI foundation models for real-time customer experiences.

Qualifications

• PhD or MS in a relevant technical field with extensive applied research experience.
• At least 5 years of people leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered platforms and products.
• Build AI foundation models through all development phases.
• Engage in high impact applied research to advance customer experiences.
• Leverage a broad tech stack (PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning, VectorDBs).
• Translate complex work into tangible business goals.
