Job summary

Formation Bio in San Francisco, CA is seeking an Associate Director of Data Engineering to lead a data engineering team responsible for pipelines, warehouse, and data products, enabling trusted data for clinical operations and asset evaluation.

You will partner with Data Science, Analytics, Clinical Operations and BD to set technical direction, governance, and scale the data platform as the company grows. Experience in AI tools and production-grade data systems is essential.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of total experience in data engineering and people management.
• 3+ years directly managing Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, or similar roles.
• Experience directing a team that uses AI tools to accelerate pipeline development.
• Strong knowledge of the modern data stack: Snowflake, orchestration tools (Dagster/Airflow), and dbt.
• Collaborative skills across Data Science, Analytics, Clinical Operations, Biostatistics, and BD.

Responsibilities

• Hire, coach, and develop a team of data engineers and set goals and performance feedback.
• Set the technical direction and roadmap for data engineering, prioritizing data quality and governance.
