Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Director, Shared Engineering Services to lead Actuarial’s Systems engineering and AI workflows enablement. The role designs and owns application solution architecture, sets automation standards, and governs AI-augmented workflows.

The position offers hybrid work, with in-office days Tue–Thu in Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC. Eligible to work in the US without company sponsorship is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 10+ years software engineering experience, with 3–5 years leading teams.
• Cloud/data engineering certifications preferred.
• Experience with enterprise architecture and modernization across teams.

Responsibilities

• Direct leadership of 6-8 cloud engineers establishing reusable architecture patterns, automation at scale, and systems reliability.
• Own application solution architecture, reviews, and 3-year Technology roadmap execution to modernize actuarial applications.
• Serve as IT-risk lead overseeing vulnerability remediation, observability, and incident health.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools to improve coding efficiency, testing quality, and documentation.
• Lead AI application workflow engineering and partner with peer teams and Enterprise on AI solutions.
• Influence leaders on priorities, sequencing, and trade-offs; ensure CI/CD pipelines are used for build, test, and deployment.
• Partner to deliver FinOps transparency and optimization for AWS, Snowflake, and AI services.
• Mentor and develop talent; foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture.
