Job summary

QTS Data Centers is seeking a Director of Accounting to lead a team of finance professionals and manage the month-end close process, journal entries, and reconciliations while upholding strong controls. The role requires agility, strategic thinking, and the ability to translate organizational goals into department objectives.

The ideal candidate has extensive accounting/finance leadership experience, strong communication with executives, and a track record in budgeting, forecasting, and audits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level degree in accounting/finance or related field.
  • 7+ years in accounting/financial reporting.
  • 5+ years supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee month-end close for multiple areas and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing finance team; maintain strong controls.
  • Support audits and SOX compliance; improve internal controls.
  • Collaborate with other departments to align financial objectives with strategic goals.

Summary

The Director, Accounting is responsible for leading and directing a team of finance professionals and managers. The role focuses on managing the month‑end close process for one or more areas of financial reporting, journal entries, reconciliations, and maintaining a robust control environment within the organization. The position requires a candidate with significant professional agility, a self‑starter who quickly and effectively translates organizational initiatives into departmental goals to achieve desired results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)
  • Develop and maintain financial reporting for various levels of internal management reporting needs
  • Lead responsibility for month‑end close processes and variance reporting
  • Assist in financial budgeting and forecasting
  • Provide support for the annual internal and external audits
  • Execute on designed SOX internal controls governing public companies
  • Identify and design effective, efficient controls
  • Responsible for maintaining a high‑performing team, including mentoring and training staff members and identifying cross‑training opportunities
  • Lead other finance managers through example and work ethic to accomplish department development goals
  • Work with team members to establish annual goals and strategic objectives
  • Demonstrate agility with competing projects and priorities
  • Lead and nurture a work culture with a positive attitude that promotes open, frequent, and dynamic communication among staff, stimulating teamwork to accomplish desired goals and objectives
  • Responsible for supporting management initiatives including process standardization and simplification, financial analysis and research, and reporting
  • Collaborate with other departments in accomplishing strategic objectives
Basic Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance or Business Management with an emphasis in Accounting
  • Seven or more years of experience in the accounting/financial reporting areas
  • Five or more years of supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four or more years of experience in public accounting at a Big 4 firm
  • Seven or more years of supervisory experience
  • CPA
  • MBA, or graduate finance–related degree
  • Workday Financials experience or other large ERP systems
  • Intermediate understanding of REIT industry
  • Working knowledge of Corporate Tax and accounting for various legal entities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communicator with executive level managers
  • Experience with delivering high‑level presentations to company executives
  • A strategic thinker with an understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and financial processes
  • Professional agility
  • Intermediate/advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with automated accounting systems
  • Must have the ability to effectively interface with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrate willingness to partner across internal departments with competing priorities
