Job summary

Verita Telecommunications Corporation is seeking a Directional Drill Locator to operate locating equipment and guide the drill head during HDD operations for fiber optic conduit installs. You will work closely with the Drill Operator to ensure safe bore paths while protecting underground utilities and maintaining production efficiency.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years in telecom or utility construction, knowledge of 811 processes, and familiarity with Digitrak/Subsite.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience as a Directional Drill Locator in telecom or utility construction.
• Experience installing fiber optic conduit preferred.
• Strong knowledge of underground utility locating and 811 processes.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and bore profiles.
• Familiarity with tracking systems such as Digitrak or Subsite.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Valid CDL preferred; ability and willingness to obtain a CDL upon hire required.

Responsibilities

• Operate electronic locating equipment to track drill head position and depth.
• Communicate continuously with the Drill Operator to maintain proper bore path alignment and grade.
• Read and interpret construction prints, bore plans, and utility locates.
• Verify depth requirements and ensure safe clearance from existing utilities.
• Perform potholing and visual verification of existing underground utilities.
• Maintain bore logs and production documentation.
• Assist with drill setup, teardown, and site preparation as needed.
• Conduct pre-job safety meetings and adhere to OSHA and company safety standards.
• Ensure job site is properly restored and cleaned upon completion.
• Report any underground conflicts, hazards, or safety concerns immediately.

The Directional Drill Locator is responsible for operating locating equipment to track and guide the drill head during horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations. This role ensures accurate bore paths and prevents damage to existing underground utilities during the installation of fiber optic conduit and telecommunications infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
