Job summary

ARCO, A COMMUNITY RESOURCE seeks a compassionate Direct Support Worker (DSW) to help adults with I/DD in northeast Louisiana. You will support participants to learn self-care, engage in activities, and build communication and decision-making skills. This role emphasizes patience, reliable attendance, and the ability to work respectfully with diverse needs.

This is a part-time position with a set schedule. Candidates should be prepared to complete background checks, provide valid driver’s license

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years or older.
• Pass a complete criminal record/background check and pre-employment drug screen.
• Provide a current, valid driver’s license and social security card.
• Have a dependable vehicle and be able to provide insurance, registration, and vehicle inspection.
• Be comfortable working with participants with various disabilities and dependency levels.
• General knowledge of community resources, personal health and safety, nutrition, and basic cooking.

Responsibilities

• Ensure participants receive support to safely complete day-to-day schedules.
• Assist with hygiene, grooming, light housekeeping, meals, shopping, appointments, and medications.
• Maintain an organized, safe household for participants.
• Plan activities to promote socialization and community involvement.
• Handle adaptive equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, lifts) and document daily activities.

JOBSUMMARY:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicatedDirect Support Worker (DSW) employee to join our team. DSWs are responsible forproviding support and assistance to individuals with I/DD. The DSW providesparticipants with the support needed to learn to become self-supportive, toengage in activities and to provide repetition of learning opportunitieshelping to develop communication, self-care, and decision-making skills. DSWemployees play a crucial role inhelping us achieve our goals and make a positive impact by increasing theparticipants’ independence and involvement in the community.

To be a successful you must:

Be available to work a part-time set shift during the 24-hours Monday-Sunday. The days worked and number of hours pershift may vary, but will be the same each week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure participants receive support tosafely complete their day-to-day schedules
• Assist with personal hygiene and grooming,light housecleaning, meal preparation, shopping and errands, medicalappointments, medication administration and other activities
• Assist in maintaining an organized, cleanand safe household for the well-being of participants
• Plan and implement engaging activities topromote socialization and community involvement
• Handle and use adaptive equipment including wheelchairs,walkers, lifts, etc.
• Document participants’ daily activities

• Be able to perform the physical requirementsof the job
• Previous DSW experience preferred, but notrequired
