Job summary

Journey Found, Inc. in Connecticut is seeking a Direct Support Specialist to assist individuals in group homes with daily living tasks, transportation, and community activities.

You will support with dressing, cooking, bathing, and medication administration, following care plans and safety guidelines. You will collaborate with nurses, clinical staff and supervisors, document program data, participate in training, and contribute to a respectful, person-centered environment.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with behavioral management preferred but training provided.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to pass MAP and CPR/FA training.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Support individuals with activities of daily living (dressing, cooking, bathing, toileting).
• Transport individuals to activities and appointments.
• Organize activities and community outings.
• Administer medications following DDS protocol.
• Attend doctors’ appointments and document data in records.
• Teach and engage individuals while promoting independence.
• Maintain good routines and deescalate behavioral situations.
• Work as part of a collaborative team with nurses and supervisors.
