Job summary

Delta-T Group is seeking Direct Support Shelter Advocates for a Lawrence, MA shelter. This temporary position involves working in a 24/7 team delivering basic shelter services to families and ensuring safe day-to-day shelter operations.

Shifts available are 7am–3pm, 3pm–11pm, and 11pm–7am, with compensation up to $20/hour. Prior experience with homeless populations and CPR/First Aid certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience with homeless individuals and/or families or other at-risk populations.
• Ability to work independently and manage crises with good judgment and communication skills.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
• Ability to ascend/descend stairs and move 5–20 lb objects; stay stationary ~50%.

Responsibilities

• Initiate and maintain appropriate social interactions with residents and assist residents as needed.
• Conduct rounds of shelter to maintain safety and security of residents.
• Assist with preparation, serving and cleanup of meals during the shift.
• Intervene if a resident is in crisis (medical, mental health, interpersonal).
• Complete assigned shift tasks and maintain shelter order and cleanliness.
• Attend monthly meetings and trainings as required.

SUMMARY OF CLIENT'S DESCRIPTION OF THIS OPPORTUNITY

This position is part of a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week team of professionals providing shelter and support for homeless families. We are responsible for the provision of basic services to clients and for the safe day-to-day operation of the shelter. The shelter is located in Lawrence, MA.

Our client's current needs are for first shift (7am-3pm), second shift (3pm-11pm), and third shift (11pm-7am). Up to $20/hour.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Initiate and maintain appropriate social interactions with residents and assist residents as needed
• Conduct rounds of shelter to maintain safety and security of residents
• Assist with preparation, serving and cleanup of meals during the shift
• Intervene if a resident is in crisis (medical, mental health, interpersonal)
• Complete assigned tasks of shift
• Maintain order and cleanliness of the shelter
• Attend and participate in monthly meetings and any other client required trainings

CLIENT'S REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Previous work with homeless individuals and/or families, disabilities or other at-risk populations
• Ability to work alone and handle crises with good judgment, adequate communication skills - both written and oral
• Current CPR and First Aid Certifications
• Must be able to occasionally ascend/descend stairs up to three or more sets, frequently move equipment weighing up to 5-20 lbs., and remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
