Job summary

Kids for the Future in Derwood, MD is seeking a Direct Support Professional to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they exercise control over the things that matter to them. The role includes facilitating customized schedules, assisting community engagement, supporting independent living skills, and coordinating with families and teams to ensure goals are met.

Training will accompany the introductory period.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Preferred: Minimum 1 year working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates a customized community-driven schedule that focuses on the individuals’ wishes and goals.
• Assists the individuals to engage in their community to develop natural support and peer relationships.
• Assists with independent living skill development in the individual’s home, as determined by the individual’s wishes and goals.
• Working with individuals’ families and teams to ensure concerns are successfully resolved.
• Ensuring individuals can access their community by providing transportation to and from planned activities.
• Caring for the emotional and physical needs of the individuals, according to their level of independence through positive interactions.
• Participates in medical appointments.
• Ensures homes are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
• Review and be familiar with nursing medical status and assessments of persons we support.
• Working cooperatively with the Residential Coordinator to ensure staff and team members contribute to an individual’s Person-Centered Plan (PCP) by ensuring written goals are implemented and documented daily.
