Job summary

L.I.F.E., INC in Baltimore is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide care for individuals with varying abilities in the community and at on-site locations.

The DSP will assist with daily living activities, support community integration, and help participants develop independence through structured schedules and person-centered planning. A high school diploma and driver’s license are required, with full-time benefits available.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in the Human Services field is a plus but not required.
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is a plus.
• Teaching or instructor experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support, interaction, and supervision of the participants, including meals, personal care, transportation, leisure activities, and community integration.
• Prepares and maintains a detailed weekly schedule of activities for each day of the week to achieve greater independence using person-centered planning and self-determination.
• Assist participants with job readiness skills and provide transportation and on the job coaching as needed.
• Plans and supervises work of individuals, either alone or in small groups, in the community or on site.
• Complete and maintain all state and agency required documentation accurately in accordance with guidelines and deadlines.
• Develop a vocational profile for each individual showing current strengths and weaknesses as related to general job skills and work habits.
• Maintain positive, professional relationships through effective communication with individuals, staff, families, and community coordinators for collaboration and planning about progress towards personal goals.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $18.00 To $18.00 Hourly

L.I.F.E. Inc is seeking a caring, patient and energetic Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide care for some of our individuals. The DSP will assist individuals who have varying abilities to become more integrated in their communities by maximizing the person’s strengths, interests, and abilities. The aim is for the person to direct their own activities that create a meaningful life including contributing to the community and developing relationships.

Work Schedule may be Monday - Friday 7am - 3:30pm or 8:00am - 4:30pm, Full-Time benefit eligible

Hourly Pay rate: $18.00 / Hour

Essential Functions:

• Provide direct support, interaction, and supervision of the supported persons, inclusive of all daily needs (meals, personal care, transportation, leisure activities, and community integration)
• Prepares and maintains a detailed weekly schedule of activities for each day of the week to achieve greater independence using person-centered planning and self-determination.
• Assist participants with job readiness skills and provide transportation and on the job coaching as needed.
• Plans and supervises work of individual’s, individually or in small groups, in the community or on site.
• Complete and maintain all state and agency required documentation accurately in accordance with stated guidelines and deadlines.
• Develop a vocational profile for each individual showing current strengths and weaknesses as related to general job skills and work habits.

Core Competencies:

• Excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
• Demonstrate ability to teach and communicate effectively with individuals, families, and community partners.
• Ability to create and maintain efficient working relationships with staff and community partners.
• Experience using computers and MS Office software.

Qualifications/Certifications (Skills and Abilities):

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Experience in the field of Human Services a plus but not necessary.
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities a plus and/or strong evidence of aptitudes and abilities that would allow one to meet the responsibilities and duties as described above.
• Teaching Or Instructor experience a plus but not necessary

Other Requirements:

• Must have and maintain a valid Maryland's driver's license with proof of good driving records.
• Must be able to successfully complete all required training in the required time allotted.
• Successfully pass a drug screening and criminal background check
• Maintain 2 points or less on your Maryland driving record during your employment with LIFE Incorporated
• Must be reliable and dependable
