Job summary

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health in Lompoc, CA is seeking a Direct Support Professional II to support adults with autism and behavioral challenges in a residential program.

You will participate in treatment planning, document programs, accompany residents on outings, and work with individuals requiring support and safety interventions. Starting pay is $28/hr with a $1 shift differential for overnight shifts and benefits after 30 days, plus tuition assistance opportunities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred.
• DSP Year 1 Certification by CA required upon hire.
• DSP Year 2 Certification by CA required upon hire.
• RBT Certification by BACB required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Utilize positive reinforcement and antecedent manipulation to increase appropriate behaviors.
• Assist in planning, implementing and documenting programs for adults served.
• Accompany residents on community outings and appointments as directed.
• Be willing to work with adults with challenging and/or aggressive behaviors.

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health is one of the largest and most advanced behavioral healthcare organizations in the country. We are looking for a Direct Support II staff to ensure the efficient operation of our Tularosa program located in Lompoc, CA. Tularosa is an adult residential facility in a community-based setting. This home serves adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders with moderate to severe behavioral challenges and/or significant deficits in adaptive skills. Residents receive on-site behavior analysis services, medical case management, medication monitoring, independent living skills training and community inclusion activities.

Responsibilities of the Direct Support Professional II include, but are not limited to:

• Utilizing positive reinforcement and antecedent manipulation to increase appropriate behaviors
• Assisting and supporting in the planning, implementation and documentation of programs designed to meet the social, emotional, physical and personal needs of adults served
• Accompanying residents on community outings, medical appointments and other activities, as directed by program management
• Must be willing to work with adults with challenging and/or aggressive behaviors

Starting pay is $28/hr w/$1 Shift Differential for overnight shifts

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred
• One (1) year of experience providing direct care to adults with developmental disabilities required
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
• One weekend shift per week required

Must Have Or Be Willing To Obtain Upon Hire

• Direct Support Professional Year 1 Certification by the State of California
• Direct Support Professional Year 2 Certification by the State of California
• Registered Behavioral Technician Certification by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board

The IDEAL candidate will...

Be empathetic, a team player, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, understand the theories of behavior management, utilize positive reinforcement, and represent yourself as a positive role model. Additionally, you must be able to successfully pass required clearances, complete 40+ hours of paid new hire trainings, and have a strong passion for supporting individuals with special needs.

Physical Requirements

Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing required. Some lifting and/or managing resistance required when applying physical intervention techniques in excess of 100 lbs or more. Some repetitive wrist/hand movements. Occasional use of computers and office equipment. Occasional driving of Devereux vehicles for business purposes. Ability to master Safe and Positive Approach trainings.

Work Environment

May require use of protective equipment such as latex gloves, facial masks, protective eye-wear, and gowns. Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Some degree of physical involvement in exercise of Safe and Positive Approaches.
