Job summary

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health in Goleta, CA seeks a Direct Support Professional II to support adults with disabilities in daily living, community activities, and treatment planning. The role offers part-time or full-time schedules, with a minimum of 40 hours of paid training.

Base pay is $21/hour, with a $1 differential for overnight shifts (11pm-7am). Benefits eligibility begins after 30 days of employment, and there are opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

  • One year of human service experience with adults, children or adolescents is required.
  • Willingness to work with adults who may have challenging or aggressive behaviors.
  • Must provide hygiene care to adults served (male and female).

  • DSP Certification Years 1 and 2 to be obtained within specified timeframes.

Responsibilities

  • Use positive reinforcement and antecedent manipulation to improve behaviors.
  • Plan, implement, and document programs addressing social, emotional, physical, and personal needs.
  • Assist with daily living activities including cooking, cleaning, budgeting, shopping and hygiene.
  • Accompany individuals on community outings and medical appointments as directed.

We Offer:

  • Part-Time or Full-Time schedules (minimum requirement of three (8) eight hour shifts per week; must be able to work one weekend shift per week)

Responsibilities of the Direct Support Professional II include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilizing positive reinforcement and antecedent manipulation to increase appropriate behaviors
  • Assisting and supporting in the planning, implementation, and documentation of programs designed to meet the social, emotional, physical, and personal needs of adults served
  • Assisting, instructing, and supporting individuals with daily living activities, including cooking, cleaning, budgeting, bill pay, grocery shopping, and personal hygiene
  • Accompanying individuals on community outings, medical appointments, and other activities as directed
  • Must be willing to work with individuals with challenging and/or aggressive behaviors
  • Must be willing to provide hygieniccare to both males and females

Nestled near the beaches between the Pacific Coast and Santa Ynez mountains, Devereux California is a therapeutic behavioral health treatment facility offering residential and community living services, clinical services, and a vocational day program for adults with multiple diagnoses, including autistic spectrum disorders, emotional and/or behavioral differences, intellectual and developmental disabilities, dementia, and other cognitive disorders.

Somerset is a five-bed adult residential facility in a community-based setting. This home serves individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder who also have moderate to severe behavioral challenges and/or significant deficits in adaptive skills. Somerset aims to prepare individuals to become productive, socially-connected members of their local communities.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • One (1) year of human service experience working with children, adolescents, or adults required
  • Must be willing to work with adults who may exhibit challenging and/or aggressive behaviors
  • Must be willing to provide hygiene care to adults served (males and females)
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must obtain Direct Support Professional Certification Year 1 within first 6-months of employment (Devereux will assist)
  • Must obtain Direct Support Professional Certification Year 2 within 12-months of employment. If employee is already DSP 1 certified upon hire, then DSP 2 certification must be obtained within the first 6-months of employment (Devereux will assist)
  • First Aid and CPR certification required (can complete with Devereux after hire)
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
  • One weekend shift per week required
  • For part time, available for a minimum of 3 shifts per week (24hrs)

The IDEAL candidate will be... empathetic, a team player, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, understand the theories of behavior management, utilize positive reinforcement, and represent yourself as a positive role model.

Work Environment: Regularly works inside areas that are adequately lighted and ventilated. Some fluctuations in temperature. Use of Protective equipment such as latex gloves, facial mask protective eye-wear, and gown. Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Some degree of physical involvement in exercise of Safe and Positive Approaches.

Physical Requirements: Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing. Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques upwardof 75-100 lbs. or more. Some repetitive wrist/hand movements, normal hearing and vision. Occasional use of computers and office equipment. Occasional driving of Devereux vehicles for business purposes. Ability to meet 100% mastery of Safe and Positive Approaches.
