Job summary

Shema Kolainu-Hear Our Voices in Staten Island seeks a Direct Support Professional to provide individualized services to people with developmental disabilities in homes and communities under OPWDD Community Habilitation and Respite programs.

The DSP will assist with daily living skills, promote community participation, and implement ISPs while documenting progress. Flexible hours include weekdays, evenings, and weekends, with a competitive hourly rate of $20.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; college coursework in Human Services preferred.
• Prior experience with individuals with developmental disabilities is a plus.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Reliable, patient, and able to work independently.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to travel within NYC and work in various home/community settings.

Responsibilities

• Support individuals in developing daily living skills in homes and communities.
• Promote community integration by assisting participation in activities.
• Implement ISPs and document progress toward goals.
• Encourage self-advocacy and independence while respecting preferences.
• Provide supervision and relief to family caregivers during respite periods.
• Maintain a structured and safe environment during respite periods.
