As a Direct Support Professional, you will work in community-based home settings with residents, helping them develop skills, participate in their communities, and lead with empathy to support their daily lives.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least one year of Human Service Experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to develop and maintain a respectful, caring, tolerant, ethical and empowering relationship with individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities.
• A desire to assist people in achieving their dreams and goals.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, stand for periods of time, bend, push wheelchairs, provide physical intervention as necessary, and be able to lift and/or transfer individuals.
• Complete and maintain First Aid, CPR, MAPs, Vehicle Safety, Human Rights, and Fire Safety certifications.
• Must successfully complete and pass all required background checks as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Providing quality living supports and supervision for intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals living in residential programs or independently
• Teach, support, and facilitate choices for individuals served within their homes and communities
• Serve as a role model for individuals and assist in developing social skills
• Develop and maintain respectful, caring, and empowering relationships with the individuals you support
• Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and support individuals in achieving their personal goals
• Maintain accurate documentation and complete required reports in accordance with agency standards
• Administer medications according to Northeast Arc Policies and Procedures and MAPs Regulations. Support doctors' appointments, ER and hospital visits, and contact on-call nursing appropriately.
