Job summary

AHRC Nassau in New York is seeking Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support individuals in Day Habilitation and ICF programs, promoting independence and quality of life. DSPs assist with self-care, health, safety, socialization, and overall well-being in a community setting.

As part of the team, you will transport participants to and from program sites, support growth and skill-building, and document activities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• AMAP/First Aid/CPR/SCIP-R Training preferred.
• Valid NYS Driver License.
• Minimum one year experience with people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensures safety of program volunteers at all sites and activities.
• Trains volunteers to perform tasks at primary site and hub sites.
• Acts as second staff support transporting volunteers to and from sites.
• Liaises between volunteer job site staff and program volunteers.
• Prompts volunteers to interact appropriately with peers and staff.
• Reports volunteers’ progress and concerns to Site Manager.
• Completes all required documentation.
• Promotes agency philosophies and inclusive culture.
• Monitors safety and reports incidents to management.
• Attends mandatory trainings and maintains certifications.
• Performs additional duties as requested by supervisor.
