Job summary

Howry Residential Services in Burnsville, MN, is seeking a Direct Support Professional to assist clients with daily living, implement program plans, document progress, and respond to service needs while ensuring safety and wellbeing.

This position may be full-time or part-time. The DSP must follow policies, maintain professional relationships with clients and families, and adapt to a range of settings and requirements.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to complete the required documentation.
• English language skills to meet performance requirements.
• May be required to observe general dress code guidelines.

• Ability to develop and maintain professionally appropriate therapeutic relationships with each client and the clients family; ability to maintain positive working relations with staff and other related persons to ensure services are delivered in a smooth and effective manner.

• Ability to follow daily routines while allowing for flexibility and planning creative alternatives.
• Ability to effectively use a calculator, household appliances, smoke alarms, house alarm system, etc.
• Ability to implement any therapeutic intervention as required.
• Ability to work in a variety of settings and levels of care without direct supervision.
• Possession of sight/hearing senses or use of prosthetics enabling these senses.

Responsibilities

• Manage on-going activities of daily living, encouraging independent living skills whenever possible.
• Understand the purpose of and implement client programs scheduled during hours worked.
• Accurately document day-to-day client progress on program charts.
• Provide feedback on the success and appropriateness of programs to the Program Coordinator.
• Obtain clarifications on program implementation as needed.
• Implement client daily schedules.
• Carry out behavior management procedures as outlined in behavior plans.
• Maintain knowledge of client history and emergency procedures.
