Job summary

HAVE Support, Inc. is seeking a dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP) who can communicate using American Sign Language (ASL) to assist an individual with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Parkville, MD.

This active, community-based role involves daily living support, communication, independence, and participation in meaningful activities. The DSP will follow individualized support plans, administer medications as assigned, and document progress.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively using American Sign Language (ASL).
• High school diploma or GED required.
• DSP, caregiving, disability-services, behavioral health, or human-services experience preferred.
• Experience supporting Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals preferred.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with the participant using American Sign Language (ASL).
• Provide direct support with daily living activities and personal needs.
• Assist with meal preparation and household chores.
• Encourage independence and participation in daily routines.
• Plan and participate in community outings and meaningful activities.
• Transport and accompany the participant to shopping, appointments, and events.
• Support social interaction, communication, skill-building, and community participation.
• Follow individual support plans (PCP, BSP, Nursing Care Plan) as applicable.
• Administer medications as assigned and follow health and safety requirements.
• Complete progress notes and required documentation accurately and on time.
• Monitor participant health, safety, behavior, and well-being.
• Communicate concerns and important updates to supervisors.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM
Location: Parkville, MD

About the Role

HAVE Support, Inc. is seeking a dependable and compassionate Direct Support Professional DSP who is able to communicate using American Sign Language ASL to support an individual with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Parkville, MD.

This is an active, community-based position. The DSP will support the participant with daily routines, communication, independence, household responsibilities, and meaningful community activities.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with the participant using American Sign Language ASL
• Provide direct support with daily living activities and personal needs
• Assist with meal preparation and household chores
• Encourage independence and participation in daily routines
• Plan and participate in community outings and meaningful activities
• Transport and accompany the participant to shopping, recreation, appointments, community events, and other activities
• Support social interaction, communication, skill-building, and community participation
• Follow the participant's PCP, Behavior Support Plan, Nursing Care Plan, and other individualized support plans as applicable
• Administer medications as assigned and follow health and safety requirements
• Complete progress notes and required documentation accurately and on time
• Monitor participant health, safety, behavior, and well-being
• Communicate concerns and important updates to supervisors and the support team

Requirements

• Ability to communicate effectively using American Sign Language ASL
• High school diploma or GED
• DSP, caregiving, disability-services, behavioral health, or human-services experience preferred
• Experience supporting individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing preferred
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Ability and willingness to transport the participant as assigned
• Ability to pass required background screening
• Dependable and able to work the assigned Monday-Friday schedule consistently
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Willingness to complete required CPR/First Aid, medication, and DDA training
• Ability to follow participant support plans and complete required documentation
• Commitment to participant choice, dignity, communication access, independence, and person-centered support
