Job summary

Guided Steps NJ is seeking Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to support individuals with intellectual disabilities in home or community settings. DSPs provide one-on-one assistance, help with daily living, transportation, and care planning.

A valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, up-to-date insurance, and the ability to pass background and drug screens are required. Pay ranges from $20.00 to $26.00 per hour, with flexible scheduling, paid time off, and benefit programs.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and less than 5 points on record.
• Must have and maintain a reliable vehicle, valid auto registration and insurance.
• Ability to pass State, Federal, and drug tests.
• Completion of required DSP training.
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a caregiving role.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Compassionate and patient demeanor.
• CPR and first aid certification required.
• Ability to lift/push/pull 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily living tasks such as hygiene, meal preparation, and transportation.
• Provide direct support and assistance to individuals with disabilities in their daily activities.
• Assist with personal care tasks, including bathing, dressing, and grooming.
• Support individuals in developing and maintaining independent living skills.
• Implement individualized care plans and document progress.
• Assist with medication administration as needed.
• Provide transportation to appointments, community outings, and recreational activities.
• Foster a safe and supportive environment for individuals with disabilities.

The DSP will assist individuals with intellectual disabilities, in a one-on-one setting, to reach their individualized goals. Services can take place in the individual’s home or in the community. This position requires all candidates to have a working vehicle, up to date vehicle documents and a valid driver’s license. Use of personal vehicle required for community outings.

Additional Requirements for Behavioral Cases:

• Experience with ABA-based interventions

• Data collection and reporting skills (Boggs Center PBIS training or equivalent training preferred)
