Job summary

Easterseals PORT Health is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) for a part-time role in Elizabeth City, NC. You will support individuals with IDD by helping with daily living tasks and enabling goal achievement in their home and community.

Responsibilities include personal care, housekeeping, meal prep, scheduling, documentation in the health system, and potential transport to appointments. Training is provided, with flexible schedules and opportunities for growth within the organization.

Qualifications

• Entry-level role with on-the-job training provided.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of basic housekeeping, nutrition, and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Provide care in the client's home and community.
• Assist with daily tasks: housekeeping, meals, bath, dressing and toiletry.
• Transport client to appointments and run errands as needed.
• Plan and organize client schedules.
• Document and report daily in the electronic health system.

As a Direct Support Professional / DSP, you’ll play a critical role in carrying out that mission by helping people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) complete everyday living tasks and achieve their goals.

• Position details: Part-Time – Monday-Friday; 1:00pm-5:30pm
• Location: Elizabeth City, NC
• Compensation: $18.00 hourly ($12.00 training rate)

Your Role in Our Mission

• You will provide care in the home of the individual and the community they live in.
• Assist with everyday tasks such as housekeeping, meal preparation, cooking, and cleaning; personal care such as bathing and dressing, toiletry and changing diapers; as well as employment support.
• You may transport the client to appointments and run errands.
• Help plan and organize their schedule.
• Daily documentation and reporting in the electronic health system of record.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience: entry-level, on-the-job training is provided
• Education: high school diploma or GED is required
• Knowledge: basic housekeeping, basic nutrition, and safety protocols
• Skills: interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and dependability are a must!
• Technology: proficiency with EHR systems or technically savvy to learn
• Transportation: DSPs must have reliable transportation, driver’s license, and current auto insurance
