Job summary

The New York Foundling seeks compassionate caregivers to support adults with developmental disabilities in a residential setting on-site in the New York area. You will implement care plans, supervise activities, assist with daily living tasks, and promote safety and well-being in a supportive team environment.

Required are a High School Diploma or GED, plus applicable certifications (AMAP/SCIP/CPR/First Aid preferred) and a valid multi-state driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or preferred.
• AMAP, SCIP, CPR, and First Aid Certifications preferred.
• Valid NY/NJ/CT/PA Driver’s License with 6 points or less required.
• Experience working with adults that have developmental disabilities.
• Demonstrated strong commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Ensure appropriate supervision, health and safety of individuals; Implement Individual Plan of Protective Oversight.
• Advocate for individuals in the community (medical appointments, church, recreation activities etc.).
• Ensure individual's plan of care is implemented.
• Ensure that individual medication is administered as prescribed.
• Assist in daily living skills (e.g. personal hygiene, food preparation, house keeping, laundry, shopping).
• Facilitate learning and skill training in fire safety.
• Maintenance of daily progress notes and logs.
• Maintain updated CPR/First Aid, SCIP, and AMAP certifications.
• Provide atmosphere conducive to positive behavior.
• Observe, report regressive and unusual behavior and collaborate with clinical staff.
• Plan and prepare balanced meals; clean and maintain the residential unit.
• Assist with groceries, clothing, hygiene supplies purchases and attend trainings.
• Transport and escort individuals to activities and appointments.
• Remain on shift until relief arrives.
