Job summary

St. David's Center for Child & Family Development in the Twin Cities area is seeking Direct Support Professionals to provide services to clients with developmental, physical or mental health disabilities at the client’s home or in the community under person-centered guidance.

You will help with supervision and safety, supporting clients to participate in daily activities, learn self-care, and build skills while coordinating with families and care teams.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age and 18+ applicants may be referred to work with a specific client.
  • Some clients require staff to drive; a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and acceptable driving record may be required.
  • Ability to use clear and understandable written and verbal English for effective communication.
  • Willingness to learn procedures for caring for young adults/children with behavior/medical needs and monitor safety and well‑being.

Responsibilities

  • Cueing, guidance, supervision, training or instructional support to complete self care tasks.
  • Assist with cooking, meal planning and healthy lifestyle skills and household chores.
  • Provide behavior direction and intervention to support self-sufficiency.
  • Take clients to activities in the community to work on communication, recreation and socialization planning.

Your work with the client includesa level of supervision and care that is necessary to ensure the person's healthand safety.

Position Overview:

Working with clients could include,but is not limited to:

  • Cueing, guidance, supervision, training or instructional supportto complete self cares.
  • Assistance, support with cooking, meal planning and healthylifestyle skills, household chores.
  • Behavior direction and intervention such as affirming positivebehavior, support strategies for self-sufficiency
  • Taking clients to activities and events in the community to workon communication, leisure, recreation and socialization planning, communityresource and safety awareness

  • Some clients require staff to drive as part of their shift, and some do not. In cases where driving is required, a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record are required. This will be discussed further as part of the recruitment process.
  • Applicants must have the ability to use clear and understandable written and verbal English Ability to communicate effectively, both through written and verbal communication
  • Candidates should be willing to learn procedures for caring for young adults/children with behavior/medical needs and be able to monitor the safety and well-being of clients

  • Training/education in social sciences, health care, human services, and/or education
  • Experience with caring for clients with behavior/medical needs
