Job summary

Advancing Opportunities (AO) is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide compassionate support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will assist with daily living activities, help clients achieve ISP/IHP goals, and promote independence in a safe, trauma-informed environment.

Role involves training, documentation, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Requires high school diploma or GED, valid driver's license, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office, email, and electronic documentation systems.
  • Ability to pass required background checks and screenings.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting individuals safely and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate support and assistance to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs.
  • Assist with activities of daily living including personal care, hygiene, meal preparation, housekeeping, shopping, and household maintenance.
  • Support individuals in achieving goals identified in their ISP/IHP.
  • Encourage independence, community participation, relationship building, and personal growth.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and skills training that enhance quality of life.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment.
  • Administer medications and follow prescribed health care programs.
  • Transport individuals to medical appointments, day programs, community activities, family visits, and recreational opportunities.
  • Monitor for health, behavioral, or safety concerns and respond appropriately to crisis situations.
  • Complete documentation accurately including daily logs, medication records, incident reports, behavioral documentation, and goal tracking.
  • Collaborate with Residential Managers, Lead DSPs, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and licensing activities.
  • Ensure compliance with DDD regulations, HIPAA requirements, agency policies, and safety standards.
  • Maintain the safety, wellness, and dignity of all individuals served.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of residential services.

What You'll Do

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will:

  • Provide compassionate support and assistance to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs.

  • Six months to one year of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and behavioral support.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
Schedule
  • Flexible shifts based on program needs
  • Weekend availability preferred
  • Opportunity to pick up additional shifts as available
  • Schedule flexibility may be required to meet business and residential program needs
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, transfer, or assist individuals weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, stand, reach, climb stairs, and assist individuals throughout the shift.
  • Ability to safely drive agency vehicles and transport individuals as needed.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
