Advancing Opportunities in Jackson, NJ is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The role includes daily living support, community participation, and skills development in a respectful, trauma-informed setting.
This full-time position offers competitive pay of $19.16/hour with $20.16/hour on weekends, paid training, and benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and Paid Time Off. DailyPay is available.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate.
- At least 21 years of age and valid driver’s license.
- Clean motor vehicle record and current vehicle registration/insurance.
- Ability to read, write, communicate, and complete documentation in English.
- Basic computer literacy including email and basic office apps.
- Ability to complete required training including CPR and First Aid.
- Ability to pass background and screening checks.
- Ability to perform essential physical duties.
Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with daily living activities such as meals, housekeeping, personal hygiene, shopping, and household tasks.
- Provide support to promote independence, dignity, safety, wellness, and quality of life.
- Help individuals develop relationships and participate in community activities.
- Provide supervision and guidance to build skills and confidence.
- Transport individuals to medical appointments and community activities.
- Administer medications and follow healthcare plans per policies.

As a Direct Support Professional, you will:
- Assist individuals with daily living activities, including meal preparation, housekeeping, personal hygiene, shopping, and household maintenance.
- Provide support that promotes independence, dignity, safety, wellness, and quality of life.
- Help individuals develop relationships, participate in community activities, and work toward their personal goals.
- Provide supervision and guidance to help individuals build skills and confidence.
- Transport individuals to medical appointments, community activities, day programs, religious services, family visits, and other assigned destinations.
- Administer medications and carry out prescribed healthcare programs following required policies and training.
- Implement individualized service and behavioral support plans.
- Complete medication records, daily logs, goal documentation, incident reports, vehicle logs, and other required paperwork accurately.
- Monitor and respond appropriately to crises or potential crisis situations.
- Maintain confidentiality and interact with individuals in a respectful, age-appropriate, and professional manner.
- Attend required staff meetings, training sessions, inspections, and investigations.
- Work collaboratively with the Lead Direct Support Professional and Residential Manager to ensure individuals’ needs are met.
- Help maintain a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed residential environment.

- Ability to complete all required training, including CPR and First Aid
- Ability to satisfy required screenings, which may include criminal background, drug, and registry checks
- Ability to perform the essential physical responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
- Schedule flexibility based on program and business needs
- Associate or bachelor’s degree
- Six months to one year of experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities or working in a human-services setting
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care
- Experience implementing individualized service or behavioral support plans
- Strong communication, documentation, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
- Full-Time: Sunday–Thursday, 3:00 PM–11:00 PM
- OR Full-Time: Sunday–Wednesday, 11:00 PM–9:00 AM overnight
- Weekend availability is required as scheduled.
- Working schedules may change based on program or business needs.
- Ability to stand or work for six to eight hours per shift
- Ability to sit for two to three hours per shift
- Ability to drive a company vehicle for one to four hours per shift
- Ability to bend, reach, stand, stoop, twist, climb steps, and assist individuals as needed
- Ability to lift more than 50 pounds
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
