Job summary

AO provides residential services and supports that help individuals build skills, increase independence, and pursue personal goals. As a Direct Support Professional, you will promote wellness, safety, independence, dignity, community involvement, and personal choice.

You will work as part of a collaborative team dedicated to creating safe, respectful, and trauma-informed environments while helping individuals live meaningful lives in the community.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to read, write, and document effectively in English.
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office, email, and electronic timekeeping systems.
  • Ability to complete required screenings, criminal background checks, registry clearances, and drug screening requirements.
  • Ability to complete CPR, First Aid, and all required annual training.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with personal care, hygiene, meal preparation, housekeeping, shopping, and other activities of daily living.
  • Promote independence, dignity, self-determination, and achievement of individual goals.
  • Support individuals in developing community connections and meaningful relationships.
  • Provide supervision and guidance while teaching daily living and social skills.
  • Create and maintain a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment.
  • Transport and accompany individuals to medical appointments, day programs, community activities, religious services, recreational activities, and family visits.
  • Monitor health, safety, and behavioral concerns and respond appropriately to emergency and crisis situations.
  • Report incidents, suspected abuse, neglect, or mistreatment in accordance with agency and state regulatory requirements.

What You\'ll Do

As a Direct Support Professional, you will:

  • Assist individuals with personal care, hygiene, meal preparation, housekeeping, shopping, and other activities of daily living.
  • Promote independence, dignity, self-determination, and achievement of individual goals.
  • Support individuals in developing community connections and meaningful relationships.
  • Provide supervision and guidance while teaching daily living and social skills.
  • Create and maintain a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment.
  • Transport and accompany individuals to medical appointments, day programs, community activities, religious services, recreational activities, and family visits.
  • Administer medications and implement prescribed healthcare programs according to agency policies and procedures.
  • Monitor health, safety, and behavioral concerns and respond appropriately to emergency and crisis situations.
  • Report incidents, suspected abuse, neglect, or mistreatment in accordance with agency and state regulatory requirements.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation including medication records, daily logs, goal tracking, incident reports, health monitoring forms, fire drill logs, seizure records, vehicle logs, and consumer fund documentation.
  • Assist with ISP implementation, goal development, and outcome tracking.
  • Attend required trainings, competency-based education programs, staff meetings, and licensing activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, DDD regulations, and agency policies.
  • Collaborate with Residential Managers, Lead DSPs, families, and interdisciplinary team members to meet the needs of individuals served.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of individuals residing in the home.

Required

  • Ability to read, write, and document effectively in English
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office, email, and electronic timekeeping systems
  • Ability to complete required screenings, criminal background checks, registry clearances, and drug screening requirements
  • Ability to complete CPR, First Aid, and all required annual training
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Schedule flexibility as needed
Preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or in a human services setting
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices
Schedule
  • Part-Time Overnight Position
  • Thursday through Saturday
  • 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Thursday & Friday:$17.15 per hour
  • Saturday:$18.15 per hour
  • Flexibility may be required based on program, staffing, and business needs.
  • Additional coverage opportunities may be available as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and assist individuals, including lifting over 50 pounds when required
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, twist, stand, climb stairs, and perform physical assistance tasks
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, drive agency vehicles, and transport individuals safely
  • Ability to operate wheelchair lifts, adaptive equipment, telephones, computers, copiers, and other office equipment
  • Ability to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to work in residential and community-based settings throughout New Jersey
