Job summary

LIFE, Inc. - Elizabeth City is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide compassionate, respectful support to individuals with developmental disabilities in a community setting.

Work hours are Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM. The role includes personal care assistance, meal support, and medication administration under safety guidelines.

Applicants must have a High School Diploma or GED, a valid NC driver’s license, and be at least 21 years old.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance and supervision during personal care activities, maintaining dignity.
• Support meals and encourage independence during dining.
• Oversee housekeeping tasks to keep a safe living environment.
• Assist in meal preparation and nutrition supplement administration.
• Administer prescribed medications safely and accurately.
• Follow dietary plans and use adaptive equipment properly.
• Follow behavior programs, document data, and stay within safety guidelines.
• Support clients in treatment plans, recording data and goals.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team and share client information.
• Transport and supervise clients in company vehicles.
• Accompany clients to community outings and day programs.
• Perform additional duties to support program success.

Requirements

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance and supervision to clients during personal care activities, including dressing, bathing, and toileting, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
• Support clients during mealtimes, promoting family-style dining and encouraging independence.
• Oversee housekeeping tasks such as clothing care, house cleaning, and yard maintenance to maintain a safe and clean living environment.
• Assist clients in meal preparation and administration of nutritional supplements.
• Administer prescribed medications accurately and responsibly, following all safety protocols.
• Implement prescribed dietary plans and ensure the effective use of adaptive equipment.
• Follow and enforce established behavior programs, maintain accurate data collection, and adhere to safety guidelines.
• Support clients in active treatment plans, including training objectives, data recording, and achieving service goals.
• Collaborate as an active member of the interdisciplinary team, communicating relevant client information to supervisory staff.
• Transport and supervise clients safely in company vehicles as required.
• Accompany and support clients during community outings and participation in school and day program activities.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to contribute to the overall success of the program.
