Job summary

Anixter Center is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide direct support to clients in residential or day-program settings in Chicago. You will help with daily living activities, accompany health appointments, and assist with community integration.

Responsibilities include medication administration, documentation, crisis intervention, and collaboration with team members. A high school diploma or GED is required, with DSP certification and CPR/First Aid preferred or obtainable within six

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associates or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• DSP certification preferred; must obtain within six months of employment.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification; must obtain within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Engage and assist clients with daily living activities including personal, medical, community, hygiene, financial, recreation and safety.
• Administer medications and document activities per Medication Policies.
• Perform housekeeping tasks including cleaning bathrooms, kitchen and client rooms; wash dishes, do laundry, dust, clean refrigerator/stove.
• Report health concerns to manager or agency nurse.
• Implement client programming across domains: independent living, social/emotional development, communication, problem-solving, vocational development, safety.
• Plan and implement community-based activities aligned with client goals.
• Ensure timely completion of client paperwork.
• Follow mandated reporter, OIG, and DHS guidelines.
• Use behavior management techniques per care plans.
• Collaborate with staff and managers about client needs.
• Maintain a neat, safe work environment.
• Attend required trainings.
• Maintain professional communication with families, employers, staff and stakeholders.
• Complete crisis intervention trainings as required.
• Provide transportation in agency vehicle and attend health appointments if needed.
• Be flexible to work as day program staff, 1:1 staff or house staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
