Job summary

Bells Employment Agency in the Bronx, NY is seeking a compassionate Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team and provide essential care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities.

You will assist with activities of daily living, support behavioral goals, promote independence, and maintain a safe, inclusive environment while collaborating with families and an interdisciplinary team to enhance client well-being.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Prior DSP or human services experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks as needed.
• Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Must pass background checks and complete required training.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, hands-on support to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
• Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
• Support individuals with meal preparation, medication administration, and transportation.
• Encourage and assist with community outings, recreation, and social activities.
• Document daily progress notes, incident reports, and service delivery logs.
• Follow individualized service plans (ISPs) and support behavioral intervention strategies.
• Promote and reinforce independence, choice, dignity, and respect.
• Ensure a safe, clean, and healthy environment.
• Collaborate with families, supervisors, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Respond to crisis situations with calm and appropriate intervention.
