Job description

We are currently hiring Direct Care Workers to provide coverage support in our OPWDD-funded IRA Residential Programs. Relief DCWs must have on-call availability on weekends, evenings, and overnights and ability to work in both Upper Manhattan and the Bronx.

Pays $15.00-$16.00 per hourResponsibilities consist of but not limited to:

1. Performs, supervises and assists individuals in all areas of adult daily living skills.
2. Assists individuals in any and all activities which are designed to foster independence, personal growth, and individualization.
3. Implements valued outcomes and all other programming methods/procedures based on the individual's rehabilitation and protective oversight plan and other QMRP documentation.
4. Ensures the overall health and safety of the individuals by providing supervision to the individuals as required based on their needs and per OPWDD regulations.
5. All staff are required to remain awake on the overnight shift.
6. Provides ongoing care for the residents in a safe, kind, and considerate manner.
7. Accompanies and transports individuals to medical and other clinical appointments and ensures the necessary documentation is completed and returned for review by the program registered nurse.
8. Responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary residence and working environment.
9. Responsible for conducting fire drills as scheduled.
10. Responsible for maintaining the individuals' clothing, furniture, and any personal belongings in good condition.
11. Required to remain on the shift until the relief arrives and the shift is appropriately covered. Reports to work on time.
12. Required to attend all trainings and meetings as mandated by the management team or the agency.
13. Remains sensitive and responsive to the needs, situations, and personal/cultural practices of the individuals.
14. Make purchases as needed or requested by the program or management team.
15. Reports any changes regarding any individual's physical and health condition to the supervisor immediately.
16. Assists in the orientation of new staff.
17. Safely operates the agency's vehicle for residential appointments or any other individual needs which may require the utilization of the agency vehicle.
18. Reads, initials, and enters required information on the communication log as well as other documentation as required.

Education/License:

1. High School Diploma or GED required.
2. SCIP, AMAP, First Aid, and CPR preferred.
3. Valid NYS driver's license preferred.
4. Dept. of Justice clearance required.

Qualifications:

1. Minimum 1 year of experience working with OPWDD individuals or in another human service field.
2. Strong leadership, excellent organizational, and communication skills.
3. Ability to work on a strong team of professionals in a culturally diverse environment.
4. Ability to multitask and to work and function under pressure.
5. Bilingual Spanish Required.
