You will assist with personal care, meals, and daily tasks, while helping clients develop social skills, communication, and routines. You'll implement care plans, document services, and collaborate with families, clinical staff, and other team members to ensure consistent, high-quality support.

Role Description

The Direct Care Worker is a full-time, on-site role based in Anne Arundel County, MD, providing daily support to autistic individuals in home and community settings. Responsibilities include assisting with personal care, meal preparation, and basic household tasks, as well as supporting individuals with social skills, communication, and daily routines. The role involves implementing care plans, following behavioral and safety protocols, documenting services provided, and reporting changes in behavior or health to supervisors. Direct Care Workers help individuals participate in community activities, maintain a structured and predictable environment, and encourage independence while offering appropriate guidance. This position requires collaboration with families, clinical staff, and other team members to ensure consistent, high-quality support.

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills to build trust and rapport with autistic individuals and their families.
• Ability to provide compassionate, patient, and trauma-informed care, including support with daily living activities and behavior management.
• Capability to follow individualized service plans, maintain accurate documentation, and adhere to agency policies and regulatory requirements.
• Reliability in maintaining schedules, responding to emergencies, and working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in direct care, autism services, or developmental disability support is preferred.
• Willingness to complete required training in areas such as first aid/CPR, de-escalation techniques, and health and safety procedures.
• Valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, and ability to meet any state or agency background check requirements.
