Amtrak is seeking a Director of Sys Design & Dev. - Client Experience in the United States to lead teams delivering Tier III support, risk remediation, device management, and engineering for client devices.

Job Summary

The Director of Sys Design & Dev. - Client Experience, is responsible for providing leadership for teams that provide Tier III support, risk remediation, device management, engineering and logistics for client devices. This includes overseeing their implementations to ensure technology investments are meeting the business requirements. The Client Experience team partners with multiple business teams and their peer DT teams to produce detailed engineering designs and implementation. Accountable for end-to-end ownership of multiple IT service domains, including service design, delivery, lifecycle management, and performance outcomes. Manage the associated budget and ensure optimal investment alignment with company priorities. Serves as a key interface between technology and business leadership, driving scalable, secure, and customer-focused digital solutions while maintaining accountability for operational excellence and service performance.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of client hardware-based solutions to meet the business requirements. This includes the full cycle of design, planning, documentation and execution.
  • Lead and mentor a team of client device engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence in building network solutions.
  • Directs the end-to-end design, delivery, and lifecycle management of technology service offerings across multiple enterprise domains, ensuring alignment with business strategy and customer needs.
  • Support executive leadership by providing strategic advice on client centric solutions, implementing modern practices, and ensuring alignment with the organization's mission, strategy, and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
  • Plus 11 years of relevant work experience.

  • Requires demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of engineering engagements, effectively planning and leveraging team resources to ensure services delivery on time and within budget.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
  • Plus 13 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with management, engineering and support of the following technologies: Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, thin clients, enterprise print, conference room and collaboration tools, and any related infrastructure required for them to operate.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Proficient in leading cross-functional teams and influencing executive-level management and stakeholders
  • Must have experience as a senior level engineer providing vision and selecting solutions to move organizations forward, building scalable solutions which enable future business initiatives.
  • Requires demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of engineering engagements, effectively planning and leveraging team resources to ensure services delivery on time and within budget.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully delivering multiple concurrent IT projects within specified deadlines and budget constraints
  • Extensive experience in managing client expectations, program and financial management, and technology product delivery
  • Strong background in Agile delivery methodologies

The salary/hourly range is $179,300.00 – $232,416.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
