Job description

The Director, Corporate Communications, will be based in Chicago and will lead public relations initiatives for the company’s equity index, cryptocurrency and retail products. This position requires a self-driven professional who will work closely with the global corporate communications team, brand and product marketing, as well as business line management to deliver measurable results.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategic external communications which position CME Group as a market leader in equity, cryptocurrency and retail derivatives.
  • Drive strategic positioning, media relations, thought leadership and promotional content that accelerates client engagement and market growth.
  • Serve as a company spokesperson who builds and maintains effective relationships with top-tier press, beat reporters, industry analysts and the next generation of digital creators/channels to shape public perceptions.
  • Lead and contribute to the development and distribution of high-impact content (press releases, byline articles, social media, owned/earned digital placements, video and compelling media pitches) that positions CME Group as the authoritative voice in financial markets.
  • Shape the company’s reputation management, ensuring brand consistency and strategic alignment for crisis and issues management, in addition to ongoing communications.
  • Provide strategic counsel and communications support for business line leaders, developing messaging frameworks, promotional materials and optimized frameworks for major announcements (product launches, milestones and expansions, partnerships, etc.)
  • Guide recommendations for raising external awareness through executive speaking opportunities, sponsorships, media and digital placements that are tailored to market dynamics.
  • Own measurement and ROI procedures for earned media and thought leadership content, demonstrating quantifiable business impact to stakeholders.
Key Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalismor a related field; advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in corporate communications, with significant experience in financial markets
  • Demonstrated success in navigating the evolving media landscape, proactively creating content across video, earned media and emerging social channels and news outlets
  • Proven track record of proactive leadership, reputation management and crisis communications in complex, high-stakes communications challenges
  • Exceptional strategic vision with the ability to translate complex topics into breakthrough communications strategies that deliver competitive advantage
  • Outstanding writing, editingand presentation skills
  • Proven ability to manage complex programs with demonstrable business impact and measurable ROI
  • Strong business acumen and deep understanding of global financial markets and derivatives trading
  • Seasoned presence with the ability to represent the organization at the highest levels with media, industry leaders and key stakeholders

The pay range for this role is $125,800-$209,600. Actual salary offered will be dependent on a wide array of factors including but not limited to: relevant experience, skills, education and comparison to internal employees (where relevant). Our compensation program also includes an annual target bonus opportunity for all employees, as well as the opportunity to become an owner in the company through our broad‑based equity program.
