Dining Services Assistant – Four Winds Community
Position description: The Dining Services Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of tasks (usually not requiring cooking) in the preparation, service, and clean‑up for meals served to residents and staff in the community and special events.
Essential Functions
- Assist Cook as needed.
- Carry pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from work stations, stove, and refrigerator.
- Prepare nourishment according to community procedures.
- Execute sanitation process: wash tables and chairs; sweep and mop dining room floor; take trash to dumpster; wash dishes and silverware; put cleaned dishes away; assist with cleaning of kitchen equipment; maintain clean, neat work areas.
- Assist with meal service duties: set dining room tables; work on meal tray serving line; serve meal trays to residents (waiter style, as needed); check meal trays for accuracy; clear tables of dishes and trash; push food carts to nursing wings; communicate with residents during meal times to enhance a homelike dining experience; assist with clean‑up after each meal and prepare for the next.
- Act calmly and logically to manage unusual occurrences.
- Follow safety and security guidelines for residents.
- Maintain effective communication with residents, their families, and other staff.
- Provide care, treatment, and services using dementia care protocols.
- Participate in relevant educational and training activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

Education & Experience
- High School Graduate or GED (preferred).
- Six months to one year of related experience (preferred).
Computer Skills
Ability to learn basic computer applications.
Other Requirements
- Operate mixers, stoves, microwaves, blending equipment, coffee makers, ovens (occasionally), slicer.
- Use sharp cooking utensils (knives, etc.) proficiently.
- Understand directions; read, write, and speak English.
- Multi‑task and work flexibly.
- Receive additional training for dementia care if required.
- Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Work with Dietary Staff, residents, families, and other community staff.
