Job summary

Rhode Island School of Design is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support dining operations, including ingredient preparation, cleanliness, and service at pizza, salad bars, and other stations. The role is student- and customer-facing and involves assisting with back-of-house tasks to ensure smooth operation.

Responsibilities include mise en place, station setup, restocking, and delivering high-quality service while following safety and sanitation guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience in food service is preferred.
• Knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safety guidelines.
• Ability to produce results in a busy kitchen environment.
• Must be able to follow recipes and instructions.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrates basic math and organizational skills.
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in pre-preparation tasks and mise en place.
• Set up and break down service areas per recipes and checklists.
• Provide professional customer service at service lines.
• Assist in bake shop, catering, commissary, or front-of-house operations as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness of storerooms, refrigerators, and cooking areas.
• Rotate stock according to FIFO and notify supervisor of low items.
