Job summary

Penn State University Park Residential Dining is seeking a full-time Dining Hall Worker to join the team. Duties include cleaning dishes, setting up serving lines, serving portions, operating kitchen equipment, and maintaining clean work areas.

Requires basic arithmetic and simple instruction-following; candidates with up to 3 months of experience are considered. The position emphasizes teamwork, safety, and adhering to collective bargaining guidelines and university policies.

Responsibilities

• Prepare machines for operations; report malfunctions to supervisor; drain and clean machines.
• Clean and wash soiled dishes, glasses, silverware, trays, utensils, conveyor belts and other equipment.
• Remove, stack and store clean dishes in proper areas.
• Bleach or otherwise remove stains from china and glasses; polish brass and stainless steel; clean and detarnish silver.
• Wash, scour, rinse, dry and store pots and pans used in meal prep.
• Set up dining hall serving counters and beverage stations; replenish serving lines as needed.
• Serve food/beverages in posted portion sizes; manage warmer units.
• Return food, dishes and utensils to kitchen when line closes.
• Operate kitchen equipment such as potato peeler, dish machine, scrubbing machine, buffer.
• Clean, sweep, mop, wax and buff floors; daily/weekly cleaning schedules.
• Use ladders/scaffolding to clean windows, ceilings, walls and light fixtures; replace bulbs as needed.
• Clean offices, kitchen areas, snack bars, linen room, rest rooms and other areas.
• Collect and remove refuse; operate incinerators and disposals as required.
• Assist in unloading and distributing supplies and taking inventory.
• Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
• Make minor adjustments; report malfunctions or damage to equipment or facilities.
• Perform other duties related or similar to the above.
