Job summary

Job description

This is a hybrid, open-ended contract opportunity with a compensation rate of roughly $50.00 per hour.

Role Overview

As a Dimensional Engineer specializing in automotive interiors, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards of craftsmanship, geometric precision, and fit-and-finish for cabin components. Your work will span the entire product lifecycle, from initial prototyping to final mass production, covering elements such as door trims, consoles, headliners, and instrument panels.

Key Duties

• Perform mathematical tolerance modeling for sub-assemblies, interfaces, and plastic injection molded components.
• Help achieve superior cabin quality by ensuring consistent flush and gap tolerances, precise tactile alignment, and the elimination of squeaks or rattles between adjacent parts.
• Evaluate coordinate measurements, CMM reports, and scan data derived from laser scanners, Meisterbock, or checking fixtures.
• Investigate and resolve underlying issues related to assembly tooling misalignment, material shrinkage, or part warping.
• Partner with toolmakers and external suppliers to facilitate necessary adjustments to assembly jigs and injection molds.

Professional Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred, though equivalent professional experience will be considered.
• Demonstrate advanced expertise in the application and interpretation of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Utilize 3D inspection tools like Verisurf, Geomagic, or PolyWorks alongside CAD platforms such as CATIA or NX.
• Apply your technical background in soft-trim manufacturing, forming, and plastic injection molding to support efficient sequence-of-assembly processes.
