The Aerospace Corporation is the trusted partner to the nation’s space programs, solving the hardest problems and providing unmatched technical expertise. As the operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we are broadly engaged across all aspects of space—delivering innovative solutions that span satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil and commercial customers. When you join our team, you’ll be part of a special collection of problem solvers, thought leaders, and innovators. Join us and take your place in space.

At Aerospace, we are committed to providing an inclusive and diverse workplace for all employees to share in our common passion and aspiration – to carry out a mission much bigger than ourselves.

Aerospace is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to support digital transformation activities for Aerospace and its customers. This role will provide leadership and advice to a range of government customers seeking assistance with digital transformation efforts, especially technically demanding activities related to the architecting digital engineering (DE) ecosystems across diverse enterprises. Inherent to this job will be opportunities to significantly influence the future of digital capabilities for both the government and the Aerospace Corporation.

Work Model: 100% onsite or hybrid: Chantilly, VA; Crystal City, VA; Colorado Springs, CO; El Segundo, CA; Huntsville, AL; Albuquerque, NM

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Develop and execute digital transformation strategy(-ies). Work with stakeholders to create digital transformation strategies and generate plans/roadmaps to realize those strategies.
  • Architect solutions. Produce various levels and types of architecture to inform implementation, accounting for user needs and tradespace constraints.
  • Support the Transition. Monitor, assess, and guide the transition from legacy capabilities to desired DE solutions, including supporting relevant aspects of the acquisition process.
  • Establish governance. Coordinate with stakeholders to implement executable processes and clear lines of authority/responsibility to manage the deployment and sustainment of digital capabilities.
  • Provide integrated perspective. Ensure that advice and solutions reflect consistent, balanced, and integrated strategies based on what is best for the entire space enterprise.

What You Need to be Successful:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or other technical discipline
  • 10 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering roles, especially related to DE.
  • Familiarity with digital engineering concepts and technologies, especially as practiced and deployed in the DoD
  • Knowledge of—and experience with—DE ecosystems as well as cloud technologies and services
  • Experience leading the design, development, representation, and/or implementation of large-scale digital architectures
  • Position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out:

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree in STEM or other technical discipline
  • 12 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering roles, especially related to DE.
  • Experience creating a government reference architecture
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale digital transformation projects
  • Experience with various DoD acquisition processes
  • Direct experience with cloud service providers and/or platforms
  • Direct experience with DoD, NNSA, or civil space missions and capabilities
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge/experience with specific DOD, NNSA, or civil space digital environments
  • Knowledge/experience of systems-of-systems (SoS) engineering and architecting and model-based system engineering (MBSE)
  • Hands-on experience with developing or implementing digital twins
  • Proficiency with descriptive modeling tools and techniques
  • Familiarity with AI technologies and practices
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability
  • Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration across multi-organizational teams
  • Current DoD TS and SSBI/SCI Clearance
