Job summary

Nexstar Media Group is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the Corporate Accounting Department in the monthly close process. The role focuses on analyzing financial performance across TV stations, preparing monthly journal entries, and handling Accounts Payable processing for the Digital business.

You will ensure timely data entry, assist with balance sheet reconciliations, and support internal control activities and SOX compliance. Strong communication and office skills are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of monthly accounting journal entries.
• Prepare schedules for external auditors (quarterly/annual).
• Assist with Monthly Financial Reporting Package for management review.
• Analyze general ledger accounts and prepare monthly financial analyses.
• Review and analyze general ledger accounts.
• Assist in balance sheet reconciliations.
• Data entry of vendor invoices and credits.
• Coordinate invoice approvals and vendor analysis.
• Undertake various accounting projects as assigned by the Sr. Accounting Manager.
• Enforce internal control and corporate accounting policies.

Job description

The Staff Accountant supports the Corporate Accounting Department in various tasks related to the monthly accounting close process including the analysis of financial performance of various TV stations, preparing monthly journal entries, Accounts Payable processing for the Digital business, complying with monthly internal SOX controls, and other accounting functions to assist with the monthly close process.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assist with the preparation of monthly accounting journal entries.
• Prepare quarterly / annual schedules for the external auditors.
• Assist with preparation of the Monthly Financial Reporting Package for management review.
• Analyze general ledger accounts & prepare monthly financial analysis.
• Review and/or analyze general ledger accounts.
• Assist with the preparation of various balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist in the accurate & timely data entry of vendor invoices and credits.
• Assist with vendor analysis and coordination of invoice approvals.
• Various accounting projects as assigned by the Sr. Accounting Manager.
• Enforce internal control and other corporate accounting policies and procedures.

Requirements & Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written along with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must have strong customer service skills.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Staff Accountant must be able to sit, reach, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the Accountant must be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required.
