Job summary

The State of Nebraska is seeking a Professional Engineer to lead the Digital Project Construction Unit, assisting with statewide Digital Project Delivery. This role involves engineering assignments and bridging gaps between design and construction execution.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, a Professional Engineer license in Nebraska, and strong communication skills. Job description

Overview

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a Professional Engineer to serve as Digital Project Construction Unit Head to assist in implementing Digital Project Delivery statewide.

Responsibilities
  • Perform complex professional engineering assignments to bridge the data gap between pre‑construction design and field construction execution.
  • Extract, cleanse and reconstruct raw 3‑D design models into construction‑technology‑ready formats and AMG surfaces, resolving geometric anomalies and ensuring proper alignment attributes.
  • Serve as the statewide technical expert and training lead for construction digital delivery technologies and established SOPs.
  • Design, update, and deliver technical curricula, hands‑on workshops, and documentation for Professional Engineers, Project Managers, EITs, technicians, and external consultants.
  • Train personnel on 3‑D models, rover units, and mobile inspection applications used in the field and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and one year of professional‑level engineering experience.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Nebraska or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license; travel, including limited overnight travel, is required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience leading and managing engineering functions.
  • Demonstrated experience using total quality management principles and decision‑making.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of civil engineering theories, highway construction, maintenance, and materials, and related computer‑aided design and geographic information systems.
  • Ability to interpret state and federal laws and agency standards, read and evaluate engineering plans, and develop procedures and logical workflows.
  • Ability to plan, organize, assign, and direct work of unit staff; provide direction and expertise to other engineering professionals and technicians; evaluate team performance.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with contractors, consultants, government officials, and the public.
