Job summary

NHS Lothian invites applications for two Assistant Practitioner, Band 4 posts in the Department of Pathology, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Western General Hospital. These are fixed-term, full-time posts, each 36 hours per week, for 12 months.

Successful candidates will support clinical and laboratory management, coordinate slide preparations to scanners, and assist pathologists with digital pathology workflows.

Qualifications

• Educated to SCQF level 8 or equivalent (e.g. HND; SVQ4; IBMS Certificate).
• Demonstrable accuracy and good interpersonal skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Support clinical and laboratory management to optimise internal pathway processes.
• Coordinate slide preparations from different Pathology laboratory and office areas to the scanners.
• Assist Pathologists to ensure that cancer workload is efficiently digitally imaged.
• Contribute to Digital Pathology initiatives and related IT processes.
