Job summary

The JMRL Central Library Makerspace & Digital Media Lab in downtown Charlottesville is seeking a full-time Digital Media Lab Specialist to empower patrons by providing training, technical support, and hands-on assistance with website design and digital fabrication resources.

Ideal candidates will be comfortable with makerspace tools, software, and machinery and have experience in responsive web design, graphics, and computer security, with some Linux server administration duties.

Qualifications

• Experience with responsive web design, graphics, computer security, and time management software.
• Comfort with makerspace tools, software, and machinery, or eagerness to learn.
• Serves as acting department head in the absence of the department manager and assists with Linux webserver administration.

Responsibilities

• Help patrons of various skill levels make the most of lab resources, including training and assistance with website design.
• Support use of the digital media lab and makerspace and provide technical help to patrons and member clients/organizations.
• Assist with system administration of the Linux webserver and act as department lead when the manager is away.

As a Full-Time Digital Media Lab Specialist (formerly known as “Internet Specialist”), you will help patrons of various skill levels make the most of our lab’s resources, which include training and assistance with website design, use of the digital media lab and makerspace, and other technical support to patrons and member clients/organizations.

Ideal candidates will have experience working with responsive web design, graphics, computer security, and time management software and be comfortable with makerspace tools, software, and machinery, or excited to learn. Serves as acting department head in the absence of the department manager and assists with system administration of Linux webserver.
