Job summary

Florida International University seeks a Lab Manager to oversee the Digital and Film Photography lab within the Department of Art + Art History. You will maintain equipment, space, and inventory, ensure safety, and coordinate with FIU EHS for lab facilities.

You will supervise student safety officers, manage schedules, track lab usage, and support faculty and students with demonstrations, trainings, and daily operations of film and digital labs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Two to three years of experience supervising labs at a college or university.

Responsibilities

• Oversees and coordinates the day-to-day operations relating to the Photography area.
• Repairs and maintains equipment and machinery in film and digital labs. Provides supervision and support for use of machinery, tools, and equipment by faculty and students.
• Oversee the day-to-day management of the physical digital and film photography lab facility, including reporting deficiencies and ensuring proper function of all facility entries and exits, lighting, equipment safety, and cleanliness.
• Serves as safety officer as liaison with FIU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). Implements policies relating to health, life, and safety in the studio and spaces; completes annual EHS lab audits.
• Develops equipment use procedures. Provides safety trainings and maintains logs; conducts demonstrations and in-class trainings.
• Supervises Student Safety Officers, manages schedules, tracks shop usage statistics, and optimizes space and time usage in the photography facility.
• Coordinates and manages software licenses, requisitions, receiving/invoicing, and internal forms; liaises with PantherTech.
