Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in website strategy, digital experience, UX, web development, marketing technology or a related field, with demonstrated progression into leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience leading complex website and digital projects from discovery and strategy through design, development and launch.
  • Strong understanding of user experience, information architecture, content strategy, modern web development and marketing technology.
  • Working knowledge of CMS, CRM, email marketing, marketing automation, analytics, integrations and emerging technologies.
  • Experience developing strategic recommendations, proposals, scopes of work and budgets.
  • Exceptional client communication, facilitation, presentation and writing skills, with the ability to translate complex strategic and technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Experience leading and mentoring multidisciplinary digital or technical teams.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on web development experience, including the ability to write, review, troubleshoot and optimize production code.
  • Strong experience developing and maintaining websites in WordPress and ProcessWire .
  • Working knowledge of modern web development frameworks, tools, APIs, integrations, hosting environments and source control.
  • Experience evaluating and learning new CMS platforms, development technologies and technical approaches as client needs evolve .
  • Strong strategic judgment, curiosity and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance client objectives, user needs, technical requirements, budgets and timelines.
  • Agency experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the agency's strategic approach to websites and other owned digital experiences, translating client business objectives and audience needs into clear strategies and recommendations.
  • Lead website discovery and planning, including stakeholder interviews, competitive reviews, audience analysis, existing-site assessments and requirements gathering.
  • Lead information architecture, sitemap development, user flows, wireframing and content strategy.
  • Define how websites and digital experiences support broader marketing strategies, campaigns and customer journeys.
  • Identify opportunities to improve usability, accessibility, engagement, conversion and overall website performance using research, analytics and user behavior.
  • Serve as a senior strategic advisor to clients, leading presentations and helping stakeholders navigate digital experience decisions and opportunities.
  • Assess clients' marketing technology needs and existing ecosystems to identify gaps, opportunities and solutions that support business and marketing objectives.
  • Develop strategic recommendations and roadmaps, including the evaluation of CMS, CRM, marketing automation, personalization, analytics and related platforms.
  • Define requirements for integrations between websites, marketing platforms, databases and third-party systems, partnering with technical specialists and vendors to ensure solutions are feasible, scalable and maintainable.
  • Translate complex technology considerations into clear, actionable recommendations for clients and agency teams.

Position: Digital Experience & Marketing Technology Director

Reports To: Director of Creative Strategy & Operations

Summary:

CJRW is seeking a Digital Experience & Marketing Technology Director t o lead the agency's strategic approach to websites, digital experiences and the technologies that increasingly power modern marketing.

This role sits at the intersection of strategy, user experience, content, creative and technology. The Digital Experience & Marketing Technology Director will serve as the strategic and primary client-facing leader of CJRW's web practice while expanding the agency's capabilities in marketing technology, including AI, automation and emerging digital opportunities. This person will lead website and content strategy, user experience and information architecture while helping clients and agency teams identify and implement technology solutions that support marketing and business objectives .

This is a strategic leadership role that also requires hands-on web development expertise. The Digital Experience & Marketing Technology Director will define the strategy, requirements and experience that guide execution by developers, designers, writers and other specialists while maintaining the technical proficiency to contribute directly to development, troubleshoot complex issues and provide technical leadership when needed. The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking and client leadership with strong web development experience and the ability to evaluate solutions, lead multidisciplinary teams and distinguish meaningful technology opportunities from trends.

Responsibilities:

Web Strategy & Digital Experience Leadership

  • Partner with Account Services and agency leadership on new business opportunities, pitches and prospective client engagements involving websites, digital experiences and marketing technology.
  • Develop proposals, scopes of work, strategic approaches and project recommendations, working with internal teams to establish realistic estimates, budgets, timelines and technical requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and help define, package and evolve CJRW's digital experience and marketing technology offerings.
  • Lead and manage the agency's web development team,establishingclear priorities, expectations and standards for quality while mentoring team members and supporting their professional growth.
  • Provide strategic direction while empowering developers and technical specialists to determine the best technical solutions.
  • Partner with project management and cross-functional agency teams to ensure projects remain strategically aligned, on schedule, within scope and within budget.
  • Establish and continually improve processes, standards and documentation for digital experience and marketing technology work.
  • Evaluate internal capabilities and recommend when outside developers, technology partners or specialized resources are needed.

Technical Development & Oversight

  • Maintain hands-on developmentexpertiseand the ability to build,modifyand troubleshoot websites in WordPress and ProcessWire .
  • Develop and support front-end and back-end website functionality, customapplicationsand third-party integrations as needed.
  • Review technical requirements, recommend appropriate platforms and development approaches and identify potential risks early in the project lifecycle.
  • Write, review, test and troubleshoot production code while establishing standards for code quality, accessibility, security, performance and maintainability.
  • Maintain working knowledge of modern web development languages, frameworks, tools and CMS platforms beyond the agency's primary platforms.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to developers, agency teams and outside technology partners, including support for complex technical issues, migrations and website launches.
