Job summary

St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office is seeking a Digital Evidence Technician to gather, log, and distribute digital evidence from many police agencies within the county. You will work with attorneys and paralegals on trial preparation and assist with courtroom technology.

The role requires organizing multiple projects under tight deadlines, including editing video and audio when needed, and collaborating with the County IT department to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent is needed; IT training preferred.
• Knowledge of Windows operating systems and related software used by the Prosecutor’s Office; ability to support attorneys and manage digital media evidence.

DEPARTMENT: St. Joseph County Prosecutor

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for gathering, logging, and distributing digital evidence from more than a dozen police agencies within St. Joseph County. The technician works with attorneys, paralegals and legal secretaries on trial preparation. They need to be able to assist with courtroom technology. This position also serves as a liaison to the County IT department.

The technician is expected to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines and should be well organized. That includes editing video and audio when needed.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is needed, training in IT is preferred.

They need to have knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and other systems. Practical knowledge of spreadsheet, database, multimedia editing, multimedia player, and various other computer software programs used by the Prosecutor’s Office, with ability to provide support to attorneys and edit, distribute, track, and organize digital media evidence.

It is important the technician has familiarity with the following software/programs preferred:

Microsoft Suite, Camtasia, VLC, Audacity, Axon’s evidence.com, Motorola’s Watchguard, Availweb’s Utility, iRecord, Avigilon, Apple iOS, Handbrake, Genetec, as well as dozens of proprietary video players used in surveillance cameras throughout the county.

The technician needs a basic understanding of the legal process. They need to have the ability to operate standard office equipment and trouble shoot problems in an emergency.

The technician works alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment, works rapidly for long periods and on several tasks at the same time, occasionally under time pressure.

Physical Requirements

Employee must be able to sit and perform common clerical tasks; carry files and supplies as needed; walk short distances to equipment and converse with co-workers regarding office duties. Position does not require any heavy, repetitive, or overhead lifting.
