Job description

What You Will Do

The Product Realization and Reliability Office (PRRO) in Nuclear Production Operations seeks a digital engineering technologist to standardize process and data usage to drive factory floor improvements, engineer solutions for leveraging data, and link information with other systems (PLM/MRP/MES/RMS etc.). The role consists primarily of office work with occasional shop floor interactions and will support various digital engineering initiatives, providing broad understanding of the domain. Training will be provided. The position may be filled at either the Engineering Technologist 1 or 2 level depending on candidate qualifications.

Responsibilities
  • Support the development of continuous improvement opportunities that leverage digital engineering capabilities.
  • Support migration of current engineering practice into information‑centric systems and demonstrate full usage of those systems.
  • Support capability leads in exercising specific digital engineering capabilities from concept through to production implementation.
  • Support nuclear production workforce in using digital engineering capabilities (PLM, RMS, MBSE, etc.).
  • Support requirements gathering and user feedback collection from nuclear production workforce.
  • For Engineering Technologist 2: Support system configuration, upgrades, and reviews of change proposals.
  • Participate in enterprise‑level discussions to represent Nuclear Production needs and ensure local awareness of enterprise direction.
  • Lead small group training sessions for new capabilities.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements
Engineering Technologist 1
  • Strong documentation skills; demonstrated ability to document technical results in a formal method/format.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one engineering software tool set (e.g., CAD, PDM, requirements management, modeling & simulation).
  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship.
Additional Job Requirements for Engineering Technologist 2
  • Experience with requirements management, process planning, or work instruction writing.
  • Familiarity with the product realization process within the nuclear security enterprise.
  • Demonstrated ability to break moderately complex tasking into actionable self‑tasks and execute with minimal supervision.
Education/Experience

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math, or related field and 2 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. For the higher level, 5 years of directly related experience is required.

  • Proactive mindset with a passion for driving continuous improvement and operational excellence in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with private industry production and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with formal requirements management systems (e.g., DOORS Next Generation, PTC CodeBeamer), product lifecycle management systems (e.g., Windchill, TeamCenter), or MRP systems a plus.
  • Experience with Confluence and Jira a plus.
  • Strong presentation skills.
Work Location

The work location is onsite in Los Alamos, NM, at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible to apply for posted jobs. The position commitment for this role is 1 year.

Clearance

Q clearance required. Position will be cleared to this level. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. The position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires U.S. citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances.

New-Employment Drug Test

Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new‑employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre‑offer.

Directive 206.2

Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. This requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
