Job summary

INSPYR Solutions is seeking a mid-to-senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain secure backend services and APIs for banking platforms. The role collaborates with analysts, QA, frontend engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, reliable solutions in a hybrid environment.

The candidate will work independently on complex initiatives, provide guidance to peers, and focus on secure, resilient systems with strong engineering judgment and professional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Strong Java experience with Java 17 or newer.
• Solid knowledge of enterprise Java, Spring Boot, web services, and RESTful APIs.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
• Proficiency with Git and CI/CD tools (Maven, Docker, Jenkins, GitHub or Azure DevOps).
• Strong understanding of databases, SQL, and data integration patterns.
• Experience designing scalable, resilient microservices and cloud-native apps (Azure preferred).
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teams.

• Contribute to solution design, technical docs, and POCs for architectural decisions.
• Support testing, deployment, production troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and promote reusable, automated solutions.

Duration: Initial 6-month contract with possible extensions

Role Overview

• We are seeking a mid-to-senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, test, integrate, and maintain backend services and digital systems supporting mobile and online banking platforms. This role partners closely with analysts, QA testers, frontend engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, reliable, and high-quality solutions.
• This candidate works independently on complex initiatives with minimal supervision and provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers. This role requires strong engineering judgment, professionalism, effective collaboration, and a focus on secure, scalable, resilient, and maintainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, integrate, and maintain secure backend services and APIs supporting mobile, web, enterprise, and partner systems.
• Design for performance, reliability, resiliency, observability, quality, and responsiveness.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and deliver sustainable technical solutions.
• Develop and maintain unit, integration, and automated tests to support reliable delivery.
• Apply secure coding, data protection, and engineering standards.
• Troubleshoot production defects, performance bottlenecks, integration issues, and complex service dependencies.
• Refactor code and conduct peer reviews to improve security, quality, readability, and maintainability.
• Contribute to solution design, technical documentation, and proof-of-concepts that support architectural decisions.
• Support services across testing, deployment, production troubleshooting, and continuous operational improvement.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and advocate for adaptive planning, automation, reusable solutions, and continuous improvement.
• Share knowledge and support the development of less experienced engineers.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Strong Java experience, with Java 17 or newer preferred.
• Solid knowledge of enterprise Java, Spring, Spring Boot, web services, and RESTful APIs.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and practices, such as JUnit and Mockito.
• Proficiency with Git and CI/CD tools such as Maven, Docker, Jenkins, GitHub, or Azure DevOps.
• Strong understanding of databases, SQL, and data integration patterns.
• Experience troubleshooting distributed systems and designing scalable, resilient, observable microservices.
• Experience developing cloud-native applications, with Microsoft Azure strongly preferred.
• Effective communication, independent prioritization, and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Desired Qualifications

• Knowledge of banking or financial services industry standards and practices.
• Experience working in Agile environments and cross-functional teams.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies, such as Kafka.

Hours: Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM

Location: Hiring locations is primarily HQ and GPO, but the manager will review resumes from any of the major campus locations (Pensacola, FL, Winchester, VA, San Diego, CA and Vienna, VA).
