Qualifications

• Strong editorial judgment and ability to identify compelling, audience-focused stories.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.

• Familiarity with OBS/VMix or similar streaming tools.
• Experience with multi-platform news strategies and audience engagement trends.
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism or Communications preferred.
• 3+ years in a top 50 market newsroom.

Responsibilities

• Organize and assign stories for broadcast, digital platforms, and streaming app.
• Coordinate and dispatch field crews to breaking and scheduled news events.
• Monitor scanners, wires, news releases, emails, and social media for story leads.
• Pitch, write, set up and produce original content and recurring segments for streaming app.
• Plan and produce live or recorded digital-exclusive content (e.g., interviews, explainers, behind-the-scenes).
• Guide the newsroom on best practices for live and recorded content for our streaming app, and the publishing of app content to our website and social media.
• Guide the newsroom on best practices for the use of streaming software.
• Assist with development, planning, and follow-up of news stories for all platforms.
• Keep the newsroom informed of breaking news and developing stories throughout the day.
• Communicate with Nexstar affiliates, FOX News Edge, and content partners for story sharing and collaboration.
• Develop compelling, brand-aligned content to maximize engagement on all platforms.
• Answer phones, vet story tips, and maintain daily news logs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred
• Minimum 3 years experience in a top 50 market newsroom
• Experience with digital content production (writing, video editing, producing) preferred
• Familiarity with the San Diego region is a plus
• Understanding of multi-platform news strategies, audience engagement trends

• Ability to make quick decisions and remain calm under pressure
• Must be comfortable taking a leadership role while collaborating across teams
• Must be knowledgeable about OBS/VMix or similar streaming tools
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
• Must be flexible and able to adapt to a fast-paced, evolving news environment
• Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and overnights as needed

Compensation starting at $28.85/hr commensurate with experience and skill level.
