Job summary

Silicon Labs in Austin, TX, is hiring for a Digital IC Design role within the Wireless MCU team. You will design, implement, and validate digital blocks for SoCs used in wireless microcontrollers, working across RTL, verification, and integration.

The role emphasizes collaboration with analog design, verification, firmware, and systems engineers to deliver high-quality silicon solutions. A Bachelor's or higher in EE/CE is required, with strong RTL and SystemVerilog skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Academic or project experience in VLSI design, digital IC design, digital embedded systems, computer architecture, or SoC development.
  • Understanding of digital design fundamentals, including RTL design, finite state machines, timing concepts, and digital logic implementation.
  • Experience with hardware description languages such as Verilog or SystemVerilog through coursework, research, internships, or project work.
  • Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment and communicate technical concepts clearly.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including analog design, verification, firmware, and systems engineers, to deliver high-quality silicon solutions.
  • Develop models, simulations, and verification plans to ensure functionality, performance, and design quality.
  • Analyze design results, debug issues, and support root-cause investigations throughout the development lifecycle.Participate in design reviews and technical discussions, providing recommendations to improve design quality, methodologies, and development efficiency.
  • Support silicon bring‑up, validation, and characterization activities as needed.

Meet the Team

You’ll join the Wireless MCU – Digital Design team, which is responsible for the integrated circuit (IC) design of digital components across the entire system-on-chip (SoC). The team’s work spans from architecture and design through verification, ensuring that each block integrates seamlessly into high-performance, low-power SoCs. By combining digital and analog expertise, the team drives innovation in embedded systems for a wide range of wireless applications.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Academic or project experience in VLSI design, digital IC design, digital embedded systems, computer architecture, or SoC development.
  • Understanding of digital design fundamentals, including RTL design, finite state machines, timing concepts, and digital logic implementation.
  • Experience with hardware description languages such as Verilog or SystemVerilog through coursework, research, internships, or project work.
  • Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment and communicate technical concepts clearly.

The following skills will be considered a plus:

  • Internship, co-op, research, or project experience related to digital IC design, SoC development, or semiconductor product development.
  • Exposure to digital verification methodologies, simulation tools, and verification environments.
  • Experience with industry‑standard EDA tools for design, synthesis, timing analysis, or verification.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems, microcontroller architectures, or wireless communication systems.
  • Exposure to mixed‑signal design concepts and integration of analog and digital subsystems.
  • Participation in engineering competitions, technical organizations, open‑source hardware projects, or relevant student leadership activities.

The annualized base pay range for this role is expected to be between $78,750 - $146,250 USD. Actual base pay could vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, geographic location where work will be performed and applicant’s skill set. The base pay is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus, equity package and a comprehensive benefits package.
