Job summary

Petco is seeking a skilled web content editor to manage and optimize digital content across our sites, promoting pet lifesaving initiatives and campaigns.

You will format content in our CMS, apply SEO and UX best practices, and collaborate on new digital tools while tracking performance and trends to improve engagement and impact.

Qualifications

• Four-year college degree in related field or equivalent education and experience.
• 2 years professional editorial experience/web content production.
• Familiarity with web tools and a content publishing system.
• Working knowledge of web best practices and design principles, HTML, CSS, database structure, responsive design best practices and web graphics.
• A strong writer and excellent communicator.
• Ability to write, edit, optimize and post content and copy.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and formats web content within the CMS to promote animal lifesaving initiatives, fundraising, partner activities, events and campaigns; researches SEO techniques and methods.
• Develops and implements website content; researches UI/UX techniques and technology.
• Researches, evaluates, recommends new digital tools and enhancements to existing tools.
• Coordinates data tracking, analyzes data, reports on website activity and identifies trends.
• Tests website content on various browsers and operating systems; reports test progress and results.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepares and formats web content within the content management system (CMS) to promote animal lifesaving initiatives, fundraising, partner activities, events and campaigns to increase awareness of the organization’s lifesaving mission. Researches, evaluates, recommends and implements search engine optimization (SEO) techniques and methods.
• Develops and implements website content. Researches, evaluates, recommends and implements UI/UX (user interface and user experience) techniques, methods and technology.
• Researches, evaluates, recommends new digital tools and recommends enhancements to existing digital tools.
• Coordinates data tracking, analyzes data, reports on website and other digital tool activity and identifies trends.
• Tests website content on Internet browsers (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, etc.) and personal computer operating systems (e.g., Window, Mac). Reports on test progress and test results.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Four-year college degree in related field or equivalent education and experience.
• 2 years professional editorial experience/web content production.
• Familiarity with web tools and technologies, such as ability to update site using a content publishing system.
• Working knowledge of web best practices and design principles, web technologies, HTML, CSS, database structure, responsive design best practices and web graphics.
• A strong writer and excellent communicator.
• Ability to write, edit, optimize and post content and copy.
