Job summary

Description

The purpose of this position is to serve as the county’s primary digital communications professional by planning, creating, coordinating, and managing digital content that informs, educates, and engages residents. This position supports county departments through strategic communications, social media management, multimedia production, website content, and public engagement initiatives, while promoting transparency and public trust.

Examples of Duties
  • Serves as the primary administrator for official social media platforms by planning, creating, scheduling, publishing, and monitoring digital content.
  • Develops engaging written, graphic, photographic, and video content to communicate county programs, services, initiatives, and emergency information.
  • Produces short-form videos, reels, graphics, photography, and other multimedia content for use across platforms.
  • Coordinates with county departments to identify communication needs and develop messaging that supports organizational goals.
  • Responds to public comments, messages, and inquiries received through digital communication channels while coordinating responses with subject matter experts when appropriate.
  • Monitors engagement, identifies emerging trends, recurring community concerns, and misinformation, and recommends communication strategies to address them.
  • Assists in communicating emergency information during incidents, severe weather, public safety events, and other time-sensitive situations.
  • Provides live digital coverage of Board of Commissioners meetings, public hearings, ribbon cuttings, press conferences, community events, and other official county functions.
  • Assists with writing and distributing newsletters, press releases, website updates, executive communications, and other public information materials.
  • Maintains the county’s digital content calendar to ensure timely publication or priority communications and coordinated messaging across departments.
  • Collaborates with department leadership to develop communication campaigns supporting county initiatives, projects, and strategic priorities.
  • Updates and maintains website content to ensure information is current, accurate, accessible, and user-friendly.
  • Tracks digital communication metrics including audience growth, engagement, reach, website traffic, and campaign performance; prepares reports and recommendations for leadership.
  • Ensures all digital communications comply with county branding standards, accessibility requirements, open records laws, copyright regulations, and applicable county policies.
  • Maintains awareness of emerging communications technologies, digital trends, and best practices to improve public engagement.
  • Assists with photography, videography, and editing for county publications and digital media.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Requires Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field; and one (1) year of related experience in marketing, advertising, public relations or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses Or Certifications

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and have close visual acuity.

Annual Leave
Annual Leave (vacation) Is Earned As Follows
  • 0 months - 4 years: 12 days per year
  • 5 years - 9 years: 15 days per year
  • 10 years - 14 years: 20 days per year
  • 15 years - 9 years: 25 days per year
  • 20 years and over: 30 days per year

Sick Leave is earned at the rate of one day per month for a total of 12 days per year.

Employees receive paid holidays as approved by the Board of Commissioners annually.

Insurance And Benefits

Insurance benefits are offered to full time employees working over 32 hours per week. New employees are eligible for insurance coverage on the first day of the month following one full month of employment. All insurance and benefits premiums will be payroll deducted.

Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)

Employees who qualify are eligible to receive a monthly contribution to a Health Reimbursement Account to offset out-of-pocket eligible healthcare expenses. To qualify, employees must decline coverage under the HCBOC group medical insurance plan and be covered on a spouse’s or parent’s plan, or a group medical insurance plan that meets ACA requirements for Minimum Essential Coverage.

Life Insurance

Henry County Government provides life insurance for each eligible employee in an amount equal to the employee’s one year's salary (up to a maximum amount as determined annually by Henry County). Employees may purchase additional life insurance for themselves, and also may purchase life insurance for a spouse, and children up to age 26.

Short Term Disability Insurance

Henry County Government employees may purchase Short Term Disability Insurance, which provides protection against loss of income during a period of disability. This coverage begins seven days after the onset of the disability.

Long Term Disability Insurance

Henry County provides Long Term Disability Insurance for each eligible employee at no cost to the employee. The benefit starts after the employee is out of work for 180 days and continues until the employee reaches Social Security normal retirement age.

The Henry County employee's pension program is managed by the Association County Commissioner of Georgia (ACCG). Employees are required to contribute a percentage of their annual salary for the Defined Benefit Program. The required contribution percentages are based on the employee's classification (employees should contact Human Resources for complete details). ACCG manages an optional 457b Deferred Compensation Program for all eligible employees.
