Job summary

Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) seeks a versatile Digital Communications Specialist to elevate SRNL’s online presence, engage audiences, and translate complex science into accessible digital content. You will own SRNL’s external WordPress site, shape social media strategy, and collaborate with scientists and program managers.

This hands-on role blends web development, content creation, and performance analytics to support SRNL’s mission and brand across federal channels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, web development, digital media, marketing, journalism, information science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience managing and optimizing digital platforms, with depth in WordPress and SharePoint.
• Demonstrated experience developing and executing social media strategies, including content creation, scheduling, community engagement, and platform management.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for digital audiences.
• Experience translating complex topics for non-technical audiences.
• Experience tracking web and social metrics using GA and native analytics.
• Solid understanding of SEO principles and metadata standards.
• Knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards.
• Experience coordinating digital projects with multiple stakeholders.
• Ability to apply web design best practices within a CMS.

Responsibilities

• Manage SRNL external WordPress website and update content.
• Maintain user-centered site structure for intuitive navigation.
• Apply SEO best practices and metadata standards.
• Conduct content audits and fix broken links.
• Identify content gaps and develop new web material.
• Apply UX and responsive design for accessibility.
• Ensure WCAG compliance and federal requirements.
• Coordinate governance across Communications, IT, and site owners.
• Maintain a 12–18 month roadmap for labs goals.
• Enforce brand, accessibility, and compliance standards.
• Track analytics and provide monthly insights.
• Support onboarding and training for contributors.
• Collaborate to align digital work with campaigns.
